This is the second of the two-part series to mark the launch of 2020 Vision, a unique 96-page magazine from the Irish Farmers Journal, kindly supported by Alltech, Kerry Group and Bord Bia.
The theme for this webinar is Sustainability and Agri-food, the next Decade. If the sector is to thrive in the years ahead and successfully tackle the many challenges it faces, it must deliver on its sustainability ambition environmentally, socially and economically.

2020 Vision: Sustainability and Agri-food – the next decade.
Moderated by Mary Delaney from the Irish Farmers Journal, the panel included Tom Arnold, chair of the 2030 Agri-food Strategy Committee, which is tasked with identifying the path to ensure a sustainable Irish Agri-food sector out to 2030 and beyond.
Also featured is Tara McCarthy, CEO of Bord Bia, who discussed Bord Bia’s 2030 ambition and the future direction of the Origin Green programme. She also outlined some of the new initiatives which will be used to assist with market diversification.
They were joined by Alltech president and CEO Dr Mark Lyons. Alltech’s nutritional solutions for soil, crops and animal feed place it at the beginning of the food supply chain in terms of the sustainability journey. Dr Lyons discussed the company’s Planet of Plenty vision for the future of the sector.
Also on the panel is Juan Aguiriano, head of sustainability, technology solutions at Kerry Group who explained Kerry’s ambition to reach two billion consumers with food including sustainable Kerry ingredients by 2030 and the company’s recently launched Beyond The Horizon sustainability strategy.
This was a thought-provoking session with global leaders in the agri-food sector.

Part 1 of the 2020 Vision webinar series was moderated by Justin McCarthy and featured Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney TD, who is in charge of Ireland’s Brexit preparations. Also participating were Darci Vetter, who was chief agricultural negotiator at the US Trade Representative and deputy under-secretary in the USDA during the Obama administration and Phelim O’Neill, markets specialist with the Irish Farmers Journal.
