A new measure to prevent runoff from farm roadways entering watercourses comes into effect on 1 January 2021.

The measure is being implemented under the Nitrates Directive but applies to all farmers, not just those in a nitrates derogation or who are exporting slurry to avoid needing a derogation.

Under the measure, runoff from farm roadways must be diverted away from watercourses.
