Monday's general sale in Tuam saw an entry of just over 200 cattle, including bullocks, heifers, dry cows, weanling heifers and weanling bulls.

Bullocks

Bullocks weighing between 400kg and 500kg averaged €2.12/kg, with good-quality continentals making between €2.25/kg and €2.35/kg in the main and as high as €2.48/kg for a July 2019-born Charolais weighing 455kg (€1,130).

Bullocks from 500kg to 600kg averaged €1.97/kg, with a large entry of Angus and Hereford, dairy-cross types in this weight bracket.

They tended to trade at between €1.75/kg and €1.95/kg, depending on quality. Good-quality suckler-bred stock in this weight band averaged over €2.20/kg.

A small number of bullocks over the 600kg mark averaged €1.98/kg. The highest price/kg here was for a 610kg March 2019-born Charolais making €2.21/kg (€1,350).

Weanling bulls

Weanling bulls from 250kg to 300kg averaged €2.60/kg, although numbers were small.

In the 300kg to 400kg weight range, the average price was €2.26/kg, with plainer types making around the €2.00/kg to €2.10/kg mark, while better-quality stock made €2.35/kg to €2.45/kg and as high as €2.78/kg for a January-born Limousin weighing 335kg (€930).

Heifers

A small number of heifers weighing 350kg to 400kg averaged €2.25/kg. Heifers weighing 400kg to 500kg averaged €2.26/kg, while those from 500kg to 600kg averaged €2.18/kg.

Again, plainer types traded from €2.05/kg to €2.15/kg, while better-quality stock moved from between €2.25/kg and €2.35/kg for the most part.

Heifers over 600kg averaged €2.15/kg, with a maximum price of €2.21/kg paid for a January 2019-born Charolais weighing 615kg (€1,360).

Cows

A small entry of dry cows averaged €1.48/kg, with younger and better-conformed types making €1.60/kg to €1.70/kg.
