The Royal Ulster Beef & Lamb Championships took place in Balmoral Park on Tuesday night with prices reaching prices as high as £9,200.
Sale topper came from the pen of Dermot Small and Blair Duffton with their Belgian Blue heifer which stood Blue champion heifer, reserve overall champion Blue and reserve supreme champion. Weighing in at 786kg, she was secured by John Kingham for breeding.
The only animal to beat her in the show ring was the Blue steer champion. This all black bullock bred by A & D McCrea, weighed 758kg and sold for £6,100 (£8.05/kg).
Overall the show and sale was a huge success. Despite only a small amount of buyers allowed ringside, trade remained very strong throughout.

Taking the reserve supreme champion and reserve Blue championship was a heifer from Dermott Small and Blair Duffton. Thiscow was born June 2019, weighed 786kg and sold for £9,200.
The Blue championship was secured by D&A McCrea. This August 2019-born steer out of a Limousin dam later went on to secure the overall championship. Weighing in at 758kg he sold for £6,100.
Taking the Shorthorn championship and reserve overall native championship was Henry Sinnamon. This August 2019-born steer is also out of a Shorthorn bred dam, weighed 540kg and sold for £2,700.
Taking the Simmental championship was well-known showmen JCB Commercials with a black and white heifer. Bred by Declan McKenna, the April 2019-born heifer weighed 602kg and sold for £4,200.
Limousin champion was secured by Colin Woodside for a heifer bred by Paul Woodside. This June 2019-born heifer weighed 658kg and sold for £3,200.
Reserve champion calf went to Pat Hackett with a homebred Blonde calf. This May 2020-born heifer calf is out of a Blue bred dam, weighed 326kg and sold for £3,100.
The Callaghan family took the Charolais championship with their super July 2019-born heifer. Out of a Limouisn dam she weighed 744kg and sold for £4,200.
Gerald Law took the Hereford championship with his May 2019-born steer. Out of a Blue bred dam he weighed 680kg and sold for £1,950.
The housewife champion came from the pen of James Alexander for his Limousin out of a Blue dam. This October 2019-born heifer weighed 570kg and sold for £5,000.
Champion calf was Miss Michelle Wright and bred by Kelly O’Kane. The March-born calf weighed 318kg and was sired by a Limousin bull and out of a Limouisn-bred cow. She sold for £4,000.
Thomas Johnston took the Blonde championship with his 606kg steer. Born in June 2019, the homebred bullock is out of a Blue bred dam and sold for £2,100.
The overall Native and Angus champion went the way of Richard Law. His homebred January 2019-born heifer is out of a Blue bred dam, weighed 618kg and sold for £2,700.
