This year Jack and Jill celebrates 25 years of funding and providing specialist in-home nursing care and respite support for children with severe to profound neurodevelopmental delay. Jack and Jill relies heavily on public donations to mobilise over 500 nurses and carers at community level. In 2021 they delivered almost 110,000 hours of in-home nursing care and respite support. GOAL Jersey Day
Whether it’s club, county, country or provincial, humanitarian aid agency GOAL is asking people to don their favourite jersey for GOAL Jersey Day, which takes place on Friday 14 October. Students, employees, members of organisations and the general public are being asked to wear their jerseys to raise funds to help GOAL’s work in vulnerable communities all over the world. Funds raised will go to the charity’s work in emergency response, health, nutrition and livelihoods in 15 countries. Last year GOAL reached more than 18.5 million people with life-changing support in areas of Africa, the Middle East, South America and Ukraine.
Boo for Barretstown
Russborough House, located on the edge of the Blessington Lakes in Co Wicklow, will be transformed into a fun Halloween haven for all the family on 23 October. A seriously spooky walk is taking place to help raise funds for Barretstown, the children’s charity. The walk is 2.4km and fancy dress is encouraged. Spooky woodland characters will guide you along the looped outdoor walking trail through the Russborough woodland, on your quest to spot as many spooky creatures along the way as you can. There are three walk times on the day: 10am, 12pm and 2pm. Tickets cost €45. Turas Spooky Trail
The Halloween spirit will well and truly be in the air around St Helen’s Park in Dundalk, Co Louth, on 30 October as a spooktacular soiree, organised by Turas, will take place. The tricks and treats get underway from 1pm to 3pm and will take place on a park trail, with a ghostly stroll through the numerous spooky zones. There will be Halloween games, music, storytelling, a costume competition, treats and more. A gratitude tree will be located in the park to give both children and adults an opportunity to count their blessings. Registration costs €20 per family. All proceeds will go to Turas.
