Three Co Laois farms were sold at auction recently by Hennessy Auctioneers.
41ac at Clonkeen
A 41ac farm at Clonkeen, Portlaoise, with a derelict residence sold in lots, with the buyers a mix of farmers and business people, all locally based.
A 21ac lot with the derelict residence sold for €380,000. A 5.5ac field sold for €25,000. A 4ac field sold for €36,000. A 10ac field sold for an undisclosed amount prior to the auction. The holding is located just outside Portlaoise town on the Mountrath Road.
108ac at Camross
The second farm was a non-residential holding of 108ac at Keelogue North, Camross, with a farmyard.
The land included 10ac of scrub and 10ac of forestry. It was offered for sale in three individual lots and the entire. There were six registered bidders, with greater interest shown in the entire. The farm was sold in its entire for €810,000 to a dairy farmer from outside the area.
c60ac at Grantstown
The final holding was c60ac at Grantstown, Ballacolla, Co Laois. It was in one block and included a house and farmyard. It was offered for sale in lots.

Lot 1 was the farm land and the farmyard, Lot 2 was the house on c1ac while Lot 3 was the entire. There were eight registered bidders mainly from the locality but there was also interest from Kilkenny and Tipperary.
After three rounds of bidding on all lots, the entire was put on the market at €1.4m and then knocked down at €1.43m.
The successful bid was by two neighbouring dairy farmers who teamed up together to buy the farm.
