Frank holds a B.Sc (Biochemistry), Higher Diploma in Education and Graduate Diploma in University Teaching and Learning from University College Dublin and a PhD (Food Science and Technology) from University College Cork. Prior to joining UCD he was a postdoctoral scientist at the University of California, Davis and a visiting scholar at Michigan State University.

Prof. Walter Gear,

Professor Walter Gear is an astrophysicist, born in Waterford but having grown up in England he studied at Queen Mary University of London and worked for a number of years at the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. He was Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy in Cardiff for eight years, but moved to Galway in 2019 to take on the new role of executive dean of science and engineering under which the agri programmes sit.

Dr. Siobhan Jordan, Head of Department, Agriculture, Food & Animal Health
Siobhan has been lecturing agriculture students in the area of agri-environmental science for over 16 years in DKIT. A graduate of the University of Limerick, Siobhán has a keen interest in agricultural education and is involved in multi-disciplinary innovative research projects in the area of agriculture and the environment.

Dr. Brigid Lucey, Head of Department,
Biological Sciences
Brigid worked as a medical scientist for 20 years in the Microbiology Department of Cork University Hospital before joining the lecturing staff in CIT/MTU in 2010, becoming head of department in 2020.

Dr. Gerard Corkery, Head of Department, Biological & Pharmaceutical Sciences
Gerard graduated with a degree in Agricultural Science from University College Dublin in 2005. He was previously employed as a Research Manager within UCD School of Biosystems Engineering. Gerard previously held a full-time lecturing position in Dundalk Institute of Technology. He also lectured full time in MTU Kerry in the Department of Biological & Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Eleanor Kent
Head of Department, Land Sciences
Eleanor has over 20 years experience in course development, course co-ordination and overseeing the progression, placement and welfare of students. She has a vast range of experience and knowledge in the areas of Food Safety and Quality Management having worked for over 10 years as a Technical Manager in the food processing sector.

Dr. Kim McFadden, Head of Department, Life and Physical Sciences
Dr Kim McFadden has a PhD in Analytical Chemistry. She was a lecturer in ATU Donegal for 10 years before being promoted to Head of Department in March 2021. This Department has nearly 600 students and a diverse profile of programmes.

Dr. Stephen Whelan, Programme Director of Agriculture
Stephan has been head of the BSc in Sustainable Farm Management and Agribusiness since 2016 when he joined the Wexford Campus. He supervises postgraduate students researching sustainable agrifood systems. In 2022 he was awarded funding to set up a research group in this area.

Dr. Daniel Walsh BSc PhD Biochemistry (NUIG) has lectured Biosciences and Bioprocessing in TUS for 18 years. His research spans food ingredients, bioactive discovery, and biotechnology. He is a founding member and Strand Lead Researcher of the Shannon Applied Biotechnology Centre.

Edna comes from a strong agricultural background and is actively involved in the management of a home farm for over 20 years. She graduated with a B.Agr.Sc.(Hons) in Agricultural Science-Animal and Crop Production in 2004 from University College Dublin.
