Calving time or harvest time?
“Harvest time – although I do love to see the young lambs in the fields during the spring!
“I love the colours in the trees during the harvest time, and the smell of newly cut grass is hard to beat – so I guess I’m a country boy at heart.”
Morning lark or night owl?
“Definitely a night owl! The nature of the entertainment business is that you are always on the road late at night, and as a result, I end up waking up pretty late in the morning – sometimes around midday – and many people tell me that I’ve missed the best part of the day, but I guess that’s the way my life is at the moment.”
Long summer evenings or cosy winter nights?
“I love the long summer evenings! When the weather is good, I try to get out on the boat or perhaps play a game of golf with some friends, but definitely I really like the long summer evenings – and if we have an outdoor gig [such as the Kildare Derby festival on Saturday, 1 July] on a long summer evening, then that’s even better!”
Beef or salmon?
“I like both, but I think I would prefer beef. It’s very hard to beat a good steak!”
D’telly or box-set binges?
“I watch a lot of television whenever I can. That said, I do like catching up with a good box set too. I’m currently hooked on the RTÉ series KIN – it’s really good, but I wouldn’t like that fella Bren as a next-door neighbour!”
Going for a spin or heading for a swim?
“Now, this is a very difficult question, as I am absolutely crazy about cars so I love driving… but I also love swimming, particularly at the seaside when I get a chance to go there... but I will give the nod to going for a spin!”
Rockin’ like a wagon wheel or cruisin’ at the tractor wheel?
“LOL – a few years ago, my good friend Declan Nerney got me to drive a tractor in Drumlish, Co Longford during the festival [The Marquee in Drumlish Festival], but I guess I’d have to go with Wagon Wheel. It has been good to me, so I couldn’t forget that.”
Nathan Carter is performing a free open-air concert on Saturday, 1 July in Kildare town square as part of the 45th Kildare Derby Festival. The concert takes place from 6.30pm, following the races at The Curragh. See kildarederbyfestival.ie for the full schedule.
