The Meat Business Women group has launched a new series in an effort to foster empowerment and drive inclusivity in the meat industry.
Senior customer marketing manager at Kepak Monisha Singh stars in the first video in a new series which will share inspirational stories of the people who work in the meat industry.
The launch of this campaign was a direct response to the findings of Meat Business Women's 2023 Global Gender Representation report.
According to the report, 53% of individuals within the industry have observed a noticeable increase in the emphasis on inclusion since 2020.
While there has been a rise in the presence of women in key positions at board, director and CEO levels, there has also been an overall decline in the number of women within the global meat workforce.
Progress remains stagnant at more junior levels. While strides are being made, there is still much work to be done. The report underscores the importance of collective efforts from all genders to usher in a more inclusive future.
Authentic experiences
‘The Power of You’ series will share the authentic experiences of men and women in the sector, showcase inclusivity best practices and help to foster a sense of empowerment and confidence within women at every career stage.
The short video - the first of the series - went live on Tuesday 12 September and is part of this global campaign, backed by leading meat businesses, launched to help empower women who work in the meat industry, foster the involvement of male allies and drive action towards a more inclusive sector.
The campaign will run across social and digital channels, including LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and X (Twitter), throughout 2023 and 2024.
Highlighting career progression
In the short video, Monisha guides viewers through significant milestones in her career development. She also shares how her peers played a pivotal role in helping her identify her core strengths and effectively apply them to excel in her role.
Monisha reflects: "I believe that someone else's faith in me provided the confidence I needed to pursue opportunities I might not have otherwise considered.
"They recognised value in me that I hadn't fully acknowledged. By doing so, they reinforced the notion that I possess a unique skill set that contributes significantly to the business and they motivated me to harness it.
"I believe this kind of encouragement and trust from another person encapsulates the essence of The Power Of You campaign."
Increasing opportunities
Since the launch of Meat Business Women’s first campaign - ‘She Looks Like Me’ - 60% of people working in the meat industry say that women now have more opportunities to network and role models are more visible.
‘The Power of You’ will highlight role models in the industry and encourage individuals to do three things:
Recognise their key strengths and skills. Respond, by amplifying their voices and taking action.Reciprocate, by sharing their experiences and paying their skills and knowledge forward to others. Global chair of Meat Business Women Laura Ryan said: “We are encouraging everyone in the meat industry - businesses and individuals - to download the media kit from the Meat Business Women website, share our campaign videos and post their own #ThePowerOfYou content. Help us empower others and create a more inclusive sector.”
