Cannabis with an estimated street value of €730,000 has been recovered in a farm machinery delivery that arrived into Ireland in a haulage vehicle.

A man in his 50s was arrested on Wednesday by gardaí in the Moneygall area of Tipperary in connection with an investigation into the find.

He is currently detained at Nenagh Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The find was made as part of ongoing intelligence-led joint investigations targeting organised criminal activity.

The Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Serious Crime Task Force and the Revenue Commissioners Customs Service are all taking part in the investigations.

The cannabis was recovered on 30 June 2017 and was concealed within the farm machinery.

Assistance was provided by Revenues’ customs scanning system, which was crucial to the detection of this offence and the subsequent arrest, the gardaí said.
