Milk production in Australia was down by 1% for the year to April 2016 but has dropped by 3% in April and Fonterra’s milk collection in that country crashed by 18% in May from May 2015 because of dry weather and low milk prices.
New Zealand’s milk output was down by over 1% the season just ended and is projecting a 3% drop for the new season.
Production in Russia has increased by 1.32% between January and March this year.
EU increased production by 7.45% during the same period, but supplies in most countries in Europe are falling since then.
In Brazil, milk production fell by 4.45% between January and March and Argentina’s milk supply fell by 7.48% between January and April.
The US is the world’s biggest producer of cow milk and expansion continued by 1.9% between January and April.
When cow and buffalo milk production are taken into account, India is the largest producer of milk in the world and it is also expanding.
Consumption of dairy products, particularly butter and cheese, is increasing at a higher rate in both the US and India.
