The retailer experienced growth of 11.5% in the non-dairy milk category last year, and 28.8% growth over the past two years. As a result, the retailer is adding 18 new plant-based milks to its aisles.

This will see the retailer offer non-dairy milks from almond, soya, oat, coconut, rice, hazelnut, cashew and hemp.

There has been a growing appetite among consumers for plant based milk and it has raised concerns around the labelling of these products and the definition of milk.

Research from Euromonitor International said that consumers are moving beyond soya to other plants that are less likely to be sources from genetically modified corps.

In 2002 milk alternatives were only 5% of those of cow milks.

It is expected that by 2021 they will reach 20%. From 2017 to 2020 soya milk is projected to increase by only 9% while cereal and nut based milk will grow by 30%.
