The Dealer called this one wrong. Last week, it was looking as if Pat O’Flaherty’s days as chair of the IFA’s pig and pigmeat committee were numbered with elections to appoint a new chair on the agenda for last Monday’s meeting. However, against what appeared to be all the odds. O’Flaherty hung on to his position and will serve another two-year term.
It is understood that the vote was a tight one. After the first round of counting, the two candidates, O’Flaherty and Howard McCollum, were tied. After the second round of voting, O’Flaherty came out on top by a single vote.
Speaking after the meeting, O’Flaherty said that it is now “business as usual” for him and he wants to represent pig farmers to the best of his ability.
