Some 35,000 farmers left it until the last minute to get their Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) application into the Department of Agriculture.

On Wednesday last, there was a total of 96,000 applications with the Department. By midnight on Monday, just over 130,000 applications had been sent in.

Of the total number of applications, 100,700 were received online while approximately 30,000 paper applications were made.

By 2018, all BPS applications must be carried online. Amendments to any BPS application can be made up until 31 May.
