The PPI for October has been set at 95.9, up from September’s PPI of 92.2.

According to Ornua, this equates to a farmgate price of 27.9c/litre for October milk. This price is based on Ornua’s product purchase mix and assumed costs. The body said the increase “reflects higher returns in the month across all main products”.

A PPI of 95.9 is the highest it has been since May of 2015.

Co-ops to set price

In the coming days, co-ops will set milk price for October. Both the IFA and the ICMSA urged co-ops to raise the prices paid to farmers.

According to an Irish Farmers Journal survey of milk production for October, supplies fell by as much as 11%.
