Met Éireann has issued a status yellow rainfall warning for the county which will is valid from 3am on Wednesday to 3am on Thursday.

It says that as much as two inches (50mm) of rain could fall on higher ground.

“Heavy rain at times Wednesday and for a time overnight will lead to accumulations of 30mm to 50mm, highest in hilly and mountainous areas.”

Slurry deadline

It is just over a week before farmers can no longer spread slurry this year.

Conditions have deteriorated since July and many farms, specifically along the western seaboard, are now waterlogged.

Conditions on many of these farms are not suitable to spread slurry leading to calls for an extension to the deadline.

Donegal woes

At the end of August, Donegal was hit with huge levels of rainfall leading to roads, buildings and bridges being destroyed.

Farms too were affected and some 300 farmers have applied for support under a flood relief schemee as revealed by the Irish Farmers Journal on Tuesday.
