Mart managers have commented that the number of heavier butcher-type lambs on offer remains very tight and, as a result, prices are strong, with those over 50kg selling from €110 to €115/head, with prices of over €125/head being recorded in some areas.
Demand and supply is the main driver of these prices.
Factory-fit lambs have seen a slight decrease in prices, but only by about €2 to €3/head in most areas.
Those from 43kg to 46kg are selling from €95 to €112, with the majority of well-covered lambs exceeding the €102/head mark.
The trade for store lambs can only be described as brisk.
Mart managers have said that the main demand for stores from 35kg to 40kg is seeing prices range from €84 to €90, with some making up to €95/head.
Lighter lambs from 30kg to 35kg are selling mainly from €73 to €80/head.
Cull ewes continue to be strong, especially for fleshed types. Top-quality heavy fleshed culls are making from €115 to €125 or €130/head. Lesser-fleshed types are making from €100 to €105.
