Topping trade at the Irish Simmental Society's main sale on Saturday in Roscommon was the pre-sale senior champion Clonagh Go Go Dancer. The sale-topper was exhibited by Garrett Behan of Ballyfin, Co Laois.
Go Go Dancer is sired by herd stock bull Kilbride Farm Dragoon and the dam is out of three-time national champion Banwy T-Rex.
Close behind was Seamus and Jennie Aherne's Towerhill Happy Harry, who was met with a flurry of bids before the hammer finally fell at €8,000.
The Curaheen Dickens son is under 12 months old and was third in the strongest class of the day. The successful purchaser was Vikki Woods of the well-known Popes herd in England.
Popes Simmentals also purchased Auroch Hillary at the Curaheen sale last September for €26,000, a record price in Ireland.
Top spot in the junior section under judge Andrew Sleigh went to Nigel and Patrick Hogan's Rathnashan Hunzo.
Sired by Auroch Bullet, this March 2016 bull claimed the national junior bull champion title last summer. He found a new home at €6,400.
Overall the trade for bulls was helped greatly by the reduced number of animals offered, as a large number of private deals had been completed leading up to the sale.
A full report and pictures from the sale will follow on www.farmersjournal.ie.
