There was a very solid trade for cattle, but especially heifers in Skibbereen mart. With 97% of what was on offer today sold, the vast majority of sellers went home happy. Like every other post Brexit sale, quality cattle were in demand with buyers slower to pay over the odds on cattle requiring a bit more work or those under performing for their age. There were 108 heifers, 96 bullocks and weanling bulls on offer in total. Suckler bred continentals performed well today in the bullock sale with most of these selling in excess of €2.20/kg. Continental crosses from the dairy herd were closer to €2/kg, with prices floating either side of this. Traditional beef breeds and Friesians were in short supply and were closer to €1.80/kg and below it.
