Teagasc is to hold open days on its two new BETTER farms for crops in Carlow and Waterford. The main focus on both farms will be precision farming, with discussion on yield mapping, soil variability and research results from Oak Park.
As well as seeing some precision farming machinery working, the open days will also discuss winter agronomy of crops and address the financial aspects of each farm. The first event takes place on Tuesday 16 February on the farm of Kevin Nolan, Grangeford, Co Carlow. Kevin is farming 445ha through a number of different arrangements. The second event takes place on Thursday 18 February at Cappoquin Estate, in Cappoquin, Co Waterford, which is managed by John Collins. John has been practicing different aspects of precision farming since the early 1990s. Both events commence at 2pm.
