Update Success !
The UK’s sixth largest retailer the Co-operative has suspended selling Danish bacon and New Zealand lamb in its stores and is now focusing on buying all of its bacon and lamb form the UK.
This move makes the co-op the first UK retailer to commit to 100% UK-sourced meat.
To support the initiative, the retailer will launch a £10m (€11.8m) advertising campaign this week. Its remains to be seen if other UK retailers will follow the Co-op’s initiative following the Brexit vote.
The reality is that the UK remains 60% self-sufficient.
Reaction and analysis will follow on www.farmersjournal.ie
