One of the world's largest private land holdings, that includes the biggest cattle station on the globe, is up for sale, entering the market at $325 million (€223 million), according to the Daily Mail Online.

The land has been in one Australian family for five generations and despite its enormity, only 150 people live on it, all of whom are cattle station staff.

The collection of ten vast outback properties was amassed more than 100 years ago by Australian pastoralist Sir Sidney Kidman, to whom the actress Nicole Kidman is a distant relation, and will be sold to one of 30 bidders from around the world over the next few months.

Sir Sidney Kidman was himself a penniless runaway who went on to join a drover and become one of Australia's greatest pastoralists.

Given the size of the property it will take each bidder a week to do a full inspection of the 11 million hectare site which straddles a number of areas on the Australian continent, including Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia.

The properties are owned by S Kidman and Co, which was founded by Sir Sidney Kidman in 1899. The family, who own 98% of the shares in the unlisted public company, are Australia's largest private landholders.

After inviting expressions of interest in April, S Kidman & Co has lately sent out briefings to bidders from around the country and from China, the US, Canada, the UK, Switzerland, South America and Indonesia. More than half the bidders are Australian.

With cattle prices currently high, the properties are considered 'a world class asset of international significance'.
