Simmental

In the biggest breed entry of the day with 166 animals present, Clonagh Dora the Explorer came out on top. Brought out by breeder Garrett Behan, the four-year-old is sired by former Tullamore champion Banwy T Rex. Four times national champion herself, Dora the Explorer already claimed top spot in Tullamore back in 2014.

Hereford

Gouldingpoll 1 Duchess 591, after securing female champion at the show last year, went one better as a first calver this year when she claimed the much desired gold medal. Bred and exhibited by Matthew and Rita Goulding, her calf was also awarded Hereford calf of the year today. Born September 2013, she is sired by Remitall Superduty and out of Dorepoll 1 Duchess.

Angus

Six-year-old bull Wedderlie Black Box from Albert De Cogan, Castlemartyr, Co Cork secured the overall championship in the Angus cattle ring. Black Box, who was reserve champion at the show in 2015, is sired by Abberton Mr Bionic.

Belgian Blue

The overall champion in the Blue ring on the launch of the breed's international conference in Tullamore went to Tommy and Pauline Fitzgerald, Clonaslee, Co Laois, for their September born Heatherview Jason. Sired by Mona Quinn, Jason is no stranger to success having claimed first in the All-Ireland senior bull calf championship two weeks ago in Tinahely. This marks the first time in six years since the Fitzgeralds last won the overall at Tullamore.

Saler

Declan Bell, Clarecastle, Co Clare was triumphant in the Saler ring when his five-year-old picked up the championship sash. Sired by Hillside Ivy, this one goes by the name of Clew Bay Kate and had already secured four championships already this year.

Blonde d’Aquitaine

Ballinascraw Glory was the recipient of the gold medal in the Blonde ring for breeders John and Stephen Lynch, Ballinalee, Co Longford. This one is no stranger to the showground, having secured the overall Blonde for the last four years running, first as a four-month-old calf.

Parthenaise

The September 2015-born bull Deelish Ka-Boom took the overall championship for Michael Dullea, Drimoleague, Co Cork. Sired by French imported bull Coquin, Ka-Boom also won at Bandon this year earlier in the season.

Beef Shorthorn

The All-ireland heifer calf champion Bushypark Cherry 2nd continued her winning ways today in Tullamore to come out on top of a strong championship line up. Bred and exhibited by John Keane, Kilfenore, Co Clare, she is bred from stock bull Rowanberry Francis.

Piemontese

Imported heifer Zorba came up trumps in the Piemontese ring for exhibitor Rodger O’Halloran, Tralee, Co Kerry. The 15-month-old heifer is sired by Quasar and out of dam Ovada.

Charolais

Goldstar Elle made it two from two for Martin Ryan, Thurles, Co Tipperary. Sired by Caramel, the seven-year -ld is no stranger to success, having also claimed a breed and interbreed championship at Balmoral show.

Limousin

First calver Baileys Ice Princess continued her of form picking up the gold medal for well-known breeders the Connell brothers. She returns to Tullamore show having picked up the championship as a two-year old heifer last year. Originally bred by Tom Bailey, she is sired by Baileys Darwin.

Aubrac

Francis and Jennifer Donohoe were successful in the Aubrac ring with their maiden heifer Johnstown Jennifer. Sired by AI bull Financier, she is out of homebred Johnstown Denise 14.

Irish moiled

In the small entry of Irish Moiled cattle, it was Margaret Edgill who came out on top. Her two-year-old Glassdrummond Cherry 76 sired by Clandeboye Defender was tapped forward as overall champion.

Commercial

Derek Forde claimed top spot in the senior classes of the commercial ring with his Limousin cross Blue heifer. Standing reserve was Michael Martin, while in the junior section Sean O’Brien came out on top with his Charolais cross.

Holstein

The O’Connor family from Cork continued their winning ways from a day to remember at Charleville show six weeks ago. The champion cow that day, Clongowes Sid Americ EX, again claimed overall championship today. Sired by Pine Tree Sid, she is destined for the Baileys competition in Virginia in two weeks.

Jersey

Ribblesdale Excitation Willow claimed top spot for breeder Eamon McLoughney in the Jersey ring. The overall champion was the winner of the senior jersey cow in milk class and overall champion udder.

Dairy Shorthorn

The Emerald Expo champion 2012 and 2014 was again on form to take top spot in the Shorthorn ring. Monasteroris Jennie Deans was the name, exhibited by Michael and Anne-Maree Manley.
