Turley nominated in fresh race for Connacht IFA chair
The IFA's Galway county executive has backed Tom Turley for the Connacht regional chair position in the fresh round of nominations opened following the rejection of John O'Beirne's candidacy.
The Galway executive endorsed Turley at a meeting on Wednesday night despite earlier reports that Pat Hardiman may also put himself forward.
The Roscommon executive was due to meet on Wednesday night too. The county had previously nominated local man John O'Beirne, the only candidate to secure the second nomination required to run for election. However, this was struck down on 3 February when it emerged that O'Beirne did not tick the full-time farmer box because his leave of absence from his job at An Post had not started.
This is now the case and O'Beirne can be nominated again.
