Two farmers have lost 55,000 chickens during Tuesday night’s floods, it has been confirmed.
The two farmers, who are both from Tyrone, supply the chickens to Moy Park. The relevant agencies have been informed.
In a statement, Moy Park confirmed that the figure of 55,000 was correct and that they will be working with the relevant agencies on the issue.
“Due to the recent extreme weather, two of our farming partners in Co Tyrone unfortunately experienced livestock loss and damage to their farm buildings,” they said.
“As per our operating procedures, the appropriate agencies were informed. We are working closely with the farmers and the relevant bodies to help get these family-run businesses fully operational again,” the concluded.

Tuesday saw accumulations of 60mm to 80mm, with Malin Head in Co Donegal experiencing over 70mm of rain, according to Met Éireann.
At an on-farm weather station in Newtonstewart, Co Tyrone figures from AgriSearch’s GrassCheck programme show that 47.2mm of rain fell.
