A status yellow rainfall warning has been issued for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Clare and North Tipperary.
Warm, humid conditions are expected to develop through Sunday, lasting into the early days of next week.
This will bring spells of heavy rain leading to potential accumulations of 30mm to 50mm, Met Éireann has said, with the highest totals in the mountains.
The warning is valid from Sunday 20 August at midday to four o’clock Monday 21 August.
Sunday
Sunday night is forecast to be close and humid, with rain. The rain will be heavy and thundery in places, especially over parts of Connacht and west Ulster, with some local spot flooding.
Widespread hill and coastal fog is also forecast, with lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees, in moderate south to southwest winds.
Monday
Met Éireann has forecast for Monday to be humid. A few sunny spells may develop in parts of Leinster and east Munster after early morning rain clears.
But it will be mainly cloudy elsewhere, with further rain, which will be heavy and thundery in western and northwestern areas.
Top temperatures will range between 17 to 19 degrees Celsius, generally, but up to 21 degrees, in any sunny breaks.
It will be close and humid overnight too, some mist, drizzle and fog about, but the rain should be lighter and more scattered than earlier.
