Western areas had higher rainfall than usual with a record 133.6mm,or twice the long-term July average at Shannon airport – making it the wettest July there since 1946.
Newport, Co Mayo also had 63% more rain than usual last month. There was rain on 25 of the 31`days of the month at Valentia, Co Kerry.
By contrast, rainfall at Dublin Airport was 25% below the July average and weather stations at Casement Aerodrome, Co Dublin and Johnstown Castle, Co Wexford recorded high sunshine levels. This was not limited to the sunny southeast, however, as “nearly all available sunshine totals were above their long-term averages,” Met Éireann noted. One exception was Knock Airport, Co Mayo, where sunshine hours were 10% below normal.
