Below we examine what is farmed in every county in the Republic of Ireland.

Cork has the largest number of farms in the country, and it also contains the most dairy cows. It also has large pig, sheep, suckler, tillage and poultry operations making it, perhaps, the most productive farming county in Ireland.

Monaghan tops the poultry list with 5.3m birds, Cavan has the most sows at 31,845, Donegal has 321,000 ewes – more than any other county, while the most suckler cows are in Co Galway, just over 109,000.

What is somewhat surprising is that there is tillage, in one form or another, farmed in every county in Ireland. From the tillage powerhouse of Wexford with almost 52,000ha in crops to Leitrim with 30ha under tillage, every county grows crops of some sort or another.
