Met Éireann has issued a status orange thunder warning for thunderstorm activity and a status yellow rainfall warning for a number of counties.

Widespread thunder activity is expected on Tuesday afternoon and evening.The warning comes into effect from midday and remains in place until 11pm.

It comes after Met Éireann issued a status yellow warning for Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal.

Some very heavy or thundery downpours are likely at times on Tuesday, mainly in parts of Connacht and Ulster, with local spot flooding also a possibility, according to Met Éireann.

Wednesday

Current indications suggest that Wednesday will start off largely dry in the morning along the eastern half of the country with some sunny spells.

However, further west there are showers are forecast which will become more widespread through the course of the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to range between 16°C and 20°C,with moderate to fresh southwest winds.
