At a ceremony at the Green Isle hotel in Dublin on Tuesday evening, the winners of the 10 top positions were announced as:
James and Carmel Croke, Co Tipperary Seamus Corrigan, Co TipperaryJoseph Gohery, Co GalwayNoel and Anne Jennings, Co CorkCiaran Kelly, Co GalwayDavid Jones, Co CorkHumphrey O’Leary, Co KerryMatthew Quigley, Co MonaghanAndrew Wilson, Co LeitrimJames Young, Co CorkThese winners were selected from the 500 best-performing dairy farmers in Ireland in terms of SCC, who all received a plaque to mark their achievement on their farm. They are all within a range of 37,000 cells/ml to 97,000 cells/ml, AHI reported recently.
Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney attended the event and congratulated the winners, hailing a “hat-trick from Cork”.
AHI chief executive Joe O’Flaherty said that a 10% reduction in SCC would save the Irish dairy industry €38m per year.
