This week, we have the second case study video from sheep farmer Joanne Devaney, as part of Irish Farmers Journal agricultural science study guides 2020/2021 for Leaving Certificate students.

Sheep farmer Joanne talks about what has been happening on the farm since her last video and the sheep trade prices from factories and at recent sales in Dowra mart in Cavan. In this video, Joanne also discusses:

  • Factory prices and their impact on mart sales.
  • The varying prices across different sheep breeds.
  • Feeding and preparations for winter.
  • Breeding and how using a harness with crayons on rams will help when it comes to lambing.
  • Health checks.
  • If you have any questions for Joanne or any of our case study farmers, feel free to email your questions to studyguidevideos@farmersjournal.ie.

Throughout the 2020-2021 school year, the Irish Farmers Journal will be releasing videos from each of our case study farmers where they will give us an update on their on-farm progress.

By the end of the school year in 2021, each student who signs up to this year’s study guides will have access to five sector-by-sector mini case studies.

You can visit www.farmersjournal.ie/agsci for full details on how to sign up to this year’s programme or email agsci@farmersjournal.ie.
