Chair of Clare Agricultural Show Joe Lillis said the committee was relieved that a €60,000 claim against it had been dismissed.

Marianne Moloney put in a personal injury claim against the show, alleging she’d hurt her back when trying to open a stable door on the showgrounds site in October 2015.

However, at Ennis Circuit Court, Judge Brian O’Callaghan dismissed her claim.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, Joe Lillis said he wanted to commend their legal team, solicitor Conor O’Neill and barrister Moira Flahive.

We never felt we were going to lose this case

“We’re relieved it’s put behind us, but we never felt we were going to lose this case,” Lillis said.

“It was a stressful period and something you wouldn’t want any show to have to go through.”

He said that the judge pointed to inconsistencies in the claimant’s case and that Marianne Moroney had made personal injury claims in the past, some of which had been successful.

Joe Lillis went on to say that he’d like to offer the support of any other agricultural shows facing similar difficulties and remind people that a number of events were still continuing at the showgrounds over the summer.
