In the coming years, we will see the development of many more community energy projects. The first renewable electricity auction is due to take place soon under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (RESS).

Under the RESS, a certain amount of capacity in the auctions has been set aside for community energy projects. This means there is an enormous opportunity for communities to explore and develop energy projects.

To support communities in maximising the chances of successfully developing a project, the Tipperary Energy Agency, GreenTech SkillNet and the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) have come together to roll out a community energy training programme for 2020.

Courses are delivered across an expanding range of technologies, including wind, solar and battery storage

GreenTech SkillNet is an enterprise-led network that delivers training and development to people working in the Irish renewable energy industry. The network is funded by Skillnet Ireland and administered in partnership with the IW EA.

Training courses are provided in all aspects of renewable energy, including grid connections, construction, health and safety, project management and much more.

Courses are delivered across an expanding range of technologies, including wind, solar and battery storage.

The IWEA has set aside €5,000 in order to contribute towards the cost of the course for members from the community energy sector. For more information, visit skillnetireland.ie or iwea.com.
