Knowing we likely won't be doing any international travel in the near future hasn't put me off from learning about new cultures through food.

There are so many amazing cookbooks out there that not only teach excellent lessons in culture, you come away from trying a recipe feeling like you've been on a micro-journey to the author's part of the world.

Here are a few of our current favourite cookbooks focusing on world cuisine:

Tasneem's Indian Pakistani Cuisine Made Easy (Tasneem Ahmad)

If you live for your Indian takeaway, try Tasneem Ahmad's quick, easy and authentic recipes from Pakistan and India. The recipes in this book range from well-known mango lassi to lesser known Aloo Ki Bhuja (spiced potatoes).

Available for purchase on Kindle (€9.99), Tasneem says most of these recipes come together in 30 minutes, making them ideal for a busy weeknight dinner.

My Korea (Hooni Kim)

Everyone who has tried Korean food tends to rave about it. It's unlike any other East Asian cuisine - it's sour, spicy, deep and completely delicious. It's healthy, too!

Michelin-star chef Hooni Kim wrote this cookbook (€35.00) to critical acclaim. The recipes are achievable (though may require special ingredients) and Kim's take on modern Korean cuisine will knock your socks off. This book is worth a buy if you love global cuisine.

Jubilee: Recipes from Two Centuries of African American Cooking (Toni Tipton-Martin)

Some of America's most iconic dishes have deep roots in African American history. Over the years, many have attempted to whitewash African American cuisine, but this cookbook (€40.00) delves into the stories and culture behind the recipes in a wonderful way.

The recipes - sweet potato biscuits with ham, curried meat pies and so much more - are indulgent and bursting with flavour. The author, Toni Tipton-Martin, is a James Beard award-winner and well-known culinary journalist.

East (Meera Sodha)

Much-loved author Meera Sodha takes the reader (and eater!) on a gorgeous gastronomic journey through East Asia in this 2019 cookbook (€28.00). You wouldn't even notice that all of the recipes are vegetarian or vegan!

Featuring a plethora of East Asian-inspired noodles, pulses, salads, curries and tofu recipes, they all share one commonality: they are comforting and delicious.

The Food of Sichuan (Fuschia Dunlop)

This is one of those books that will teach you almost everything you need to understand about a regional cuisine. Focused on the Sichuan area of southwest China, award-winning food writer Fuschia Dunlop explains the intricacies of one of the world's spiciest (and most delicious) cuisines (€36.00)

Jerusalem (Sami Tamimi and Yotam Ottolenghi)

Jerusalem is a city of many cultures. Food is something that has been interwoven into each of these cultures and through this cookbook (€32.40), Sami Tamimi, with well-known London chef/author Yotam Ottolenghi, takes you on a culinary journey through this storied city. These recipes are accessible, full of flavour and, in print, beautifully presented.
