Glanbia growers who meet the different co-ops’ price support requirements will receive €160/t for delivered green feeding barley. The co-op’s grain prices, agreed by the board on Tuesday, show support for its grower members in this difficult year.

The feed barley composite price of €160/t is higher than was expected and is about €7/t higher than the final price last season.

Quoted prices include co-op support of €5/t, and €10/t from the trading bonus scheme for inputs purchased.

With barley being the biggest single crop, the price of €160/t for green feed barley is significant for growers. Its feed wheat price is weaker than some other co-ops at €181/t but Glanbia is likely to have a much higher wheat intake. Malting barley price is similar to Dairygold at €187/t.

All product prices are shown in Table 1.

Its premium oat prices also deserve mention with gluten-free at €221, food grade at €207 and equine oats at €170/t. Glanbia is Ireland’s largest buyer and user of Irish grains and over 40% of its total intake delivers a market premium for its growers.

Other buyers

Other co-ops also agreed prices recently with Centenary in Thurles paying €159 for feed barley and rye, €183 for wheat, €154 for oats and €210/t for beans.

All prices are inclusive of a co-op support and exclusive of VAT.

Meanwhile, Barryroe Co-op is said to be paying €163/t for green feed barley and €188/t for wheat – prices are exclusive of VAT but they include an €8/t bonus.

Another private merchant in the south is paying €157/t for green barley, €183/t for wheat and a €15/t premium for roasting barley.
