The IFA grain committee is currently blocking a boatload of grain from being unloaded in Waterford.

Approximately 1,500t of barley is believed to be on the shipment.

Earlier on Friday, the IFA staged a blockage to prevent the last of the grain from being unloaded from the ship.

Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal, IFA grain committee chair Mark Browne said they are protesting at barley being imported into the country when there is plenty of barley in store.

“Barley is being imported on the doorstep of our harvest,” he said.

However, it is unclear whether the barley on board the ship is feed or malting barley. The IFA also couldn’t confirm where the grain was destined for.
