Keady Livestock Mart held its Christmas show and sale last Friday, with a tremendous entry of prime cattle forwarded.

Judging was conducted by John Lynch, Dovea Genetics, with the supreme champion being awarded to a February 2021-born Limousin heifer weighing 730kg and bred by Nathan Harvey, Tassagh. The champion sold to English butcher Tony Kitson for £4,500.

Reserve champion went to a Belgian Blue heifer from Chris Donnelly, Middletown. This July 2020-born animal weighed 625kg and sold for £2,350.

This Angus bullock, born July 2020 and weighing 640kg, sold for £2,100.

This May 2020-born Belgian Blue heifer stood second in her class, weighed 770kg and sold for £2,480.

This Limousin bullock, born May 2021 and weighing 655kg, sold for £2,050.

The supreme champion was a February 2021-born Limousin heifer weighing 730kg that sold for £4,500.

This Belgian Blue heifer, born June 2021 and weighing 565kg, sold for £1,860.

This Limousin heifer, born November 2020 and weighing 685kg, sold for £2,060.

This Charolais heifer, born December 2020 and weighing 780kg, sold for £2,260.

This Limousin heifer, born June 2020 and weighing 710kg, sold for £2,260.

This Charolais heifer, born May 2020 and weighing 715kg, sold for £1,980.

This Limousin heifer, born June 2020 and weighing 760kg, sold for £2,360.

This Limousin heifer, born July 2021 and weighing 535kg, sold for £1,850.

The reserve champion was a Belgian Blue heifer, born July 2020 and weighing 625kg, sold for £2,350.

The male champion, an April 2021 born Charolais bullock weighing 1,065kg, sold for £3,000.

Housewife’s champion went to Vincent and Charlie Lennon, Middletown, with their October 2020-born Charolais heifer weighing 765kg selling for £2,800.

Male champion saw an April 2021-born Charolais bullock weighing 1,065kg selling for £3,000 for breeder Darren Mullin, Newtownhamilton.

Commenting on the sale, mart manager Brendan Reavey commended all farmers on the quality of stock presented on the day.

“Our Christmas sale is growing every year and attracting customers from all over Northern Ireland and Britain. This year’s sale was the best yet in terms of cattle quality and reflected in a terrific trade throughout.”
