Camera at the Mart attended the weekly sale of calves at Omagh Mart on Monday, where there was an outstanding trade for good-quality beef-bred animals.

Driving the trade was intense buying competition between farmers and cattle agents. Calves forwarded were excellent in terms of quality, with most born between late December and early January.

This January-born Limousin bull calf sold for £250 (€294).

Leading the trade for bull calves were Blue, Limousin and Angus lots around two to three weeks old. Limousin bull calves sold to £370 (€435) for an animal just over two weeks old, while Limousin heifers born in early January generally sold from £250 to £300 (€294 to €352).

This December-born Limousin heifer sold for £255 (€300).

Standout Belgian Blue bull calves sold from £300 to £355 (€352 to €417) for animals born in late December, with heifer calves making similar prices.

Angus bull calves were a sharp trade, with buyers driving prices to £315 (€370) for calves under two weeks of age as older lots made upwards on £360 (€423).

Angus heifers sold from £250 to £300 for animals born in early January (€294 to €352), while Hereford cattle made £20 to £40 per head less.

Simmental calves sold to £345 (€405) for a two-week-old bull calf, with Salers bull calves making over £200 per head (€250).

This November-born Salers bull calf sold for £205 (€241).
