Galway-based food retailer Joyce’s Supermarkets has launched an upskilling programme for its employees who are seeking to build a career in retail management.

The programme is made up of a combination of an in-house manager development scheme as well as a part-time course at Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB).

The blended method aims to provide employees with insight into retail management as well as hands-on experience. The GRETB course is a certified QQI Level 6 Supervisory Management programme and is made up of practical as well as operational training.

Nine Joyce’s Supermarket staff members are currently enrolled in the supervisory management course with GRETB.

Director of operations at Joyce’s Supermarkets Aisling Joyce said: “At Joyce’s Supermarkets, we believe it is important to invest in our people and support our employees to develop their skills. Working with GRETB allows us to combine traditional education with real life experience of working in a retail environment, to help our trainee managers to build a foundation for their careers in retail management.

“Retail management is a very rewarding career and really appeals to those who enjoy dealing with people and working in the local community. It also offers a great opportunity in managing a business. Our trainee managers are immersed in all aspects of grocery retail, as all activities associated with operating a grocery business are carried out by the team in house.”

Joyce’s Supermarket is currently recruiting for a number of trainee management roles. Interested applicants can email careers@joycesupermarket.com
