Gardaí have arrested a man, 34 years, in connection with an investigation into the theft of livestock, with an estimated value in excess of €100,000, which occurred at Kilbeggan, Co Westmeath between 24 and 25 June 2015. Some 75 cattle and 25 sheep were stolen during that night in Cornaher, between Kilbeggan and Tyrrellspass.
The man was arrested on Thursday 22 October 2015, and was detained at Athlone Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He was released later that night without charge. A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Earlier this month Gardaí arrested a different man in his 30s in Co Donegal in connection with the theft but this man was also later released without charge.
