New registration figures released by the Farm Tractor & Machinery Trade Association (FTMTA) have shown that telehandler registrations fell slightly in August, with 33 new units registered. This represents two units less than what was registered in the same month in 2018. The total number of these machines registered in the first eight months of the year is up 39% on 2018 at 406 units. This means that 2019 telehandler registrations to date have surpassed the entire year of 2018, when a total of 374 units were registered.

There were five registrations of new wheel loaders last month. This is up from two registrations of wheel loaders in August 2018. The total number of wheel loaders registered during 2019 stands at 83 units, which is a drop of 12 machines from the same period last year.

Backhoe loader registrations fell in August. Gary Ryan, chief executive of the FTMTA, explained, “There were six backhoes registered during August which was a considerable drop on the 11 machines registered in August of 2018. The total number of backhoes registered in 2019 was 58 units, down from 64 year on year”. There have been more backhoes registered in eight months this year than in all of 2016 or 2017, when only 40 and 52 units respectively were registered.
