Prices for nitrogen fertiliser are on the rise with the latest quotes indicating CAN is currently trading around the £200/t to £205/t mark.

For CAN with added sulphur, quotes are an additional £10/t above straight nitrogen prices.

Agri-merchants indicate that fertiliser prices have increased on the back of higher manufacturing costs, with raw materials becoming more expensive.

Indications are that a further £10/t could be added to CAN prices where merchants are receiving new stocks in early spring.

During the spring of 2020, CAN prices dropped to £180/t with some deals on bulk orders agreed at £175/t.

Prices look set to be £30/t to £40/t more in spring of 2021.

Phosphorous

Compound prices also look to be rising, with phosphorous (P) more expensive, and some straight P products, such as DAP expected to increase in price (currently around the £380/t mark).

Farmers purchasing fertiliser containing P should note that under cross-compliance rules, soil samples must be available to show there is a crop need, before it is applied.
