Peugeot announces 508 SW prices

Peugeot has announced the prices for its new 508 SW or estate car, which hit the Irish market this month.

The entry prices start from €34,110 plus delivery related charges for the Active 1.5 BlueHDi diesel 130bhp 6-speed manual version.

This new Peugeot 508 SW boasts the same sharp, front design as the 508 fastback. It offers a large, easy-access boot, a total load space from 530 litres with the luggage cover closed, and up to 1,780 litres thanks to Magic Flat rear seats.

The 508 SW is available with two new petrol engine options and four diesel engine options.

A new 225bhp plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version, providing power to the front wheels using a 1.6l PureTech petrol 180bhp engine and an 110bhp electric motor, is due in Ireland at the end of 2019.

With a ZEV range of 50km (WLTP), the batteries will be located under the second row of seats to preserve boot space.

MINI unveiled first electric model

MINI, the iconic British car brand owned by BMW, has unveiled its first commercial electric car, powered by lithium-ion battery and with a range of 235 to 270 kilometres.

MINI Electric deliveries in Ireland are not due until March 2020.

Entry prices on the road will be from €27,765 OTR (which includes SEAI grant €5,000 and VRT rebate €5,000).

The MINI Electric is based on the same body shell as the 3-Door Hatch, with a few differences, including an embossed MINI Electric logo on the car’s side scuttles, as well as on the tailgate and front radiator grille.

Volvo recalls 5,200 cars in Ireland due to a fire risk

Volvo is recalling 5,200 cars in Ireland in model years 2014 to 2019 with a 2-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine.

The Swedish brand said that in very rare cases the plastic engine intake manifold may melt and deform, thus posing potential fire risks.

The company added that in some cases there is a possibility that a localised engine bay fire may occur. Models affected by the recall include S60, S80, S90, V40, V60, V70, V90, XC60 and XC90 vehicles.

Volvo said that all customers affected will be contacted by the company asking them to contact their local retailer for corrective action. Owners will not have to pay for this work.

The company added that they have received no reports of accidents or personal injuries due to the defect.
