A c39ac residential farm is on the market near Skibbereen, Co Cork. The farm at Bauravilla is being sold by Hodnett Forde by private treaty guided at €300,000 and is under offer.

The holding is located midway between Skibbereen and Drimoleague, approximately 1km off the R593 Skibbereen to Drimoleague main road. It is 5km from Skibbereen and 8km from Drimoleague.

The farm is in one working unit with most of the land on one side of a public road and about 4.5ac directly across the road. There is significant road frontage. The road is a cul de sac.

The land is of mixed quality. There is approximately 15ac of good farm land, while the remaining land would benefit from drainage and reclamation. There is a cattle holding unit with a pen and chute fitted with a headgate, in good condition.

Strong market

The farmland market in west Cork was strong in 2022, auctioneer John Hodnett said. “To the end of November the average price of farmland we sold was €15,100/ac. This compares with approximately €14,000/ac in 2021 and just under €13,000/ac in 2020.”

The 39ac is in one unit but divided by a public road.

The 2022 figure was boosted by a 58ac farm which sold for the huge price of €41,000/ac, John said. This holding has gravel deposits.

“There is strong demand, particularly from dairy farmers and investors looking to buy land to lease out.”
