A 50ac residential farm near Rathdowney, Co Laois has made almost €28,000/ac at auction. The holding at Rossmore had a four bedroom house and farm sheds and was sold by Joe Coogan Auctioneer. Bidding opened at €800,000 and the hammer fell at €1.4m to solicitor Michael Ryan, acting for three local farmers who will divide up the property. Two are in dairying.

A 68ac farm near Ennis, Co Clare sold for €1.32m or over €19,000/ac. The land at Slaveen was sold by Pat Considine Auctioneers. It had slatted shed, cubicles and payment entitlements.

Bidding opened at €400,000 and 44 bids later the hammer fell at €1,320,000 to a local farmer.

The same firm sold a 21.5ac farm in Dunsallagh, Miltown Malbay for €355,000, in lots.

One of 7.5ac sold for €80,000 while 14.5ac with a house sold for €275,000. Quinn Property sold land at Rathnagrew, Hacketstown, Co Carlow for €14,700/ac. It was in three divisions, in grass, had frontage and a three bay hayshed. It was guided at €8,000 to €10,000/ac.

It opened at €150,000. Two bidders competed at the end and the hammer fell at €345,000 to a local dairy farmer. “The price equated €14,700/ac,” David Quinn said.

REA Thomas Potterton sold two farms in Co Meath, one at Ballivor and Kildalkey in lots. The house on 9ac sold for €404,000 to a local couple.

A block of 8.5ac sold for €122,000 to a local farmer; a plot of 4.5ac sold for €85,000 to a local while 21.5ac of maturing forestry, with a further 1ac paddock, made €67,000, bought by a local business person.

Thomas Potterton also sold a 17.5ac holding at Ballivor. The land, needing some attention, was withdrawn at auction but then was sold for close to the guide of €9,000/ac.
