The Irish Farmers Journal understands that the 15 May deadline to submit Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) applications will not be extended.
Advisers in contact with the Department of Agriculture have been informed that the deadline will not be extended in light of the recent discussion at EU level. The EU is currently drafting legislation in relation to an extension to the deadline for the submission of BPS applications which would allow member states to extend the application period if they so wish.
The Department did not give a definitive answer, but highlighted that any extension to the deadline for receipt of applications would have an adverse impact on the delivery of payments under the 2018 BPS.
So far, there have been over 90,000 BPS applications made online. This is the first year that all BPS applications and transfer of entitlements applications must be made online.
