Goldcrop, the seed, agri-chemical and hardware supplier headquartered in Cork, is to acquire Croplink Ireland, pending approval from the Competition & Consumer Protection Commission.

Croplink Ireland is based in Ballyvaughan, Co Clare and supplies crop protection products. The company was established in 2001 by Jim Droney and is estimated to generate annual revenues between €9m and €12m. An ag graduate, Droney has built up the Croplink business over the years as a supplier of ag chemicals to the trade.

Goldcrop was set up by Michael Murphy in 1984 after a management buyout of the agri division of Sutton’s Ltd. The company is now run by managing director John Murphy and had revenues of €47.3m in 2015. Operating profits were €1.1m.

Goldcrop has grown through acquisitions throughout the years. In 2007 it acquired Power Seeds from Origin Enterprises. Acquiring Croplink has the potential to double the size of Goldcrop’s turnover from agri-chemical sales and firmly places them as a key distributor of agri-chemicals in Ireland.
