New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra has obtained a high court injunction against former board member Leonie Guiney, preventing her from speaking to media. The injunction restrains Guiney from disseminating information to media, as it would breach her duties of confidentiality to Fonterra.
The injunction also stops NZX Rural, a media organisation, from publishing confidential information it has received from Guiney on Fonterra. Guiney is a dairy farmer from the south island of New Zealand. She was first elected to the board of Fonterra in 2014, but was blocked from seeking a second term.
Speaking to the Irish Farmers Journal this week, a New Zealand dairy who supplies Fonterra said the move by the dairy co-op was an “extreme” measure. “Such a defensive play by Fonterra only raises suspicions,” said the farmer.
