Zoetis’s general manager for the Nordic region and Ireland, Roy Geary, told the Irish Farmers Journal that the company would carry out works at the empty facility in the coming months and planned to phase in operations there later this year.
“We will eventually be producing active ingredients for both livestock and companion animals [in Rathdrum],” Geary said. He added that the acquisition was part of Zoetis’s efforts to widen its production network around the world and ensure reliable supply for its customers.
The move follows Zoetis’s decision to base its international (non-US) business in Ireland, revealed by The Dealer last year and effective for the past 12 months. Geary said this headquarters activity now employs 50 staff at the company’s Dublin office.
Zoetis also acquired Tullamore-based pet health company Nexvet Biopharma this year for €80m.
