Last week’s sale at Clogher Mart saw a large entry of over 1,408 cattle, which were met with a very strong trade.
In the fatstock ring, there were 390 lots on offer. Beef cows and cow heifers sold to a top price of £2.03/kg for a 720kg Charolais. The top 20 fat cows averaged £1.76/kg.
Prices of fat cows in the main ranged from £1.30/kg to £1.52/kg, while lesser quality cows sold from £1.10/kg to £1.29/kg. Friesian fat cows sold from £1.06/kg to £1.16/kg.
Fleshed underage steers sold mainly from £1.40/kg for a Simmental to £1.76/kg for a top quality 810kg Charolais. Underage fat heifers sold mainly from £1.71/kg for a Simmental to £2.04/kg for a top quality 500kg Charolais.
There were 254 bullocks for sale on the day also. Prices ranged mainly from £1,290 for a 640kg forward steer to £1,422 for a 660kg bullock. Lighter store bullocks from 400kg to 500kg sold from £995 for 440kg to £1,085 for 490kg. Bullocks under 400kg sold from £520 for 310kg to £895 for 350kg.
Heifers from 400kg to 500kg were in strong supply and sold from £1,035 for 470kg to £1,195 for 490kg. Lighter types sold from £850 for 350kg to £980 for 390kg.
Weanlings were a strong trade once again and sold from £915 for a 400kg bull to £1,090 for 450kg. Heifers sold from £740 for 350kg to £900 for 450kg.
Calved suckler cows sold from £1,000 to £1,280 with a top price of £1,720.
